Senior Financial Accountant – Sawmill Trust Company

Position Overview: Perform comprehensive accounting tasks in a variety of capacities, problem-solve software and accounting inconsistencies, take initiative on problems and tasks, and backup the Controller/Senior Fund Accountant/Financial Accountant. 

Location: Sioux Falls SD or Minneapolis MN

Responsibilities & Duties:

  •  Record client ACH/wire deposits in Eton, process resulting deemed transactions

  • Assist with daily accounting transaction error/suspense assessments (i.e. test harness, transfers)

  • Monthly accounting for 5-10 partnerships

  • Monthly accounting for 5 Foundations

  • Reconcile month end brokerage statements to Eton (within % threshold)

  • Update month end valuations of outside client investments (ANH assets)

  •  Assist with Eton month end closing (bulk uploads, etc.)

  • Assist with month end review work, including review of principal and income activity

  • Assist with identifying root causes of accounting discrepancies and provide corrective actions

  • Back-up the daily Bill Pay Verification

  • Back-up the weekly cash report

  • Participate in daily Eton operations and cash disbursements team meetings

  • Assist with internal and external audit work

  • Assist with annual Schwab tax letter reconciliations

  • Back-up Senior Fund Accountant/Senior Financial Accountant

  • Work on special projects as assigned by the Controller


  • College Degree, Accounting Major

  • CPA (certification obtained or in process)

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, focus on investment/fund accounting, tax knowledge is helpful

  • Trustworthy and discreet.

  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Works independently with minimal oversight.

  • Excellent communication skills including written, email & phone.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet project deadlines.
