What is STEP?
- STEP is an international organization of lawyers, accountants, trustees, and other professionals who are designated specialists in family wealth transfer and succession planning.
- Members of STEP are qualified experts in their field and subject to a rigorous Code of Professional Conduct.
- A local chapter of STEP is currently being established with the objective of filling a knowledge gap in administering foreign trusts and to provide informational materials with a focus on international topics affecting foreign accounts.
- Benefits include discounted access to webinars and other events, the use of the STEP logo (full members only), receipt of the STEP Journal (industry magazine; 6 issues per annum), and discounts on STEP courses and qualifications. https://www.step.org/join-step/step-membership-benefits
Who can join STEP?
Full membership is available upon application individuals with 10 years or more of experience, or for individuals holding the CTFA, CFP, CFA, AEP, and LLM designations.
- Full membership can be attained via the exam or essay routes for individuals with limited years of experience.
How do I Join?
- STEP membership is a tiered system, ranging from Student, to Affiliate, to Associate, and Full Member which then grants the use of the STEP designation offered through the organization. Full Membership is $430 per year. See attached fee schedule for reference.

- Until a local SD chapter is finalized and approved by the governance committee, new members should select another chapter when joining.
